         Norway Approved Prohibition of Oxo-degradable Plastic Products and Certain Single-Use Plastic Products

On 8 January 2021, The Ministry of Climate and Environment of Norway has approved regulations (FOR-2020-12-18-3200) to prohibit oxo-degradable plastic products and certain single use plastic products. It shall be effective on 3 July 2021.

The following single use plastic products (wholly or partly made of plastic) shall be prohibited on the market:

  1. Cotton swab (excluding for those used as medical equipment);
  2. Cutlery (forks, knives, spoons and chopsticks);
  3. Plates;
  4. Straw (excluding for those used as medical equipment);
  5. Stirring stick for beverages;
  6. Balloon stick and its fastener (excluding for those for industrial or commercial use, which are not distributed to consumers);
  7. Expended polystyrene (EPS) food containers, with or without lids, for foods which, without further preparation, are intended to be eaten from the container either on the spot of sale or as take-away;
  8. Beverage packaging of expended polystyrene (EPS), including corks and cover;
  9. Expended polystyrene (EPS) drinking cup and the lid for the cup.

Besides, products that are made of oxo-degradable plastic shall be prohibited to market in Norway.
